What are the attendance status options and how do they impact the student grade

Created by School Edtech, Modified on Sun, 5 Jan at 8:59 AM by School Edtech

There are five built in attendance options, present, late, absent, excused, and vacation.

  • The status names cannot be modified with the current version of School EdTech, but may be in the future versions.
  • The impact of the 'Late' status on the grade can be modified, as explained below.
  • You can also customize the impact of attendance on the class grade in the Class Weights, or choose a different approach to absences by using the Point Deduction System.
    • For more information on the Class Weights, see the related article.
    • For more information on the Point Deduction System, see the related article.

The attendance options and their impact on the grade:

  • Present will give the student full credit for attending the lesson and is equal to 100%.
  • Absent will give the student no credit and is equal to 0%.
  • Late equals the late grade value. For example you may choose to set the late grade value at 66.7%, which would mean that 3 lates will equal 1 absence. The late grade can be modified in two places:
    • Global late value - found in Main Menu Settings > Grades
      • If you set the late value in the global late value field, that value will be used for all classes by default. You will not have to enter the late value in each class. If you leave the class late value is empty, it will use this global late value.
    • Class late value - found in Class Menu > Settings
      • If you want to override the global late value for a specific class, you can enter it in the class late value field. The system will then use this value for the late grade, and will not use the global late value.
  • Excused status exempts the student from the lesson. An exempt lesson does not affect the student's grade, it is as if the lesson didn't exist.
  • Vacation is similar to exemptions, and does not affect the student's grade, it is as if the lesson didn't exist.
